Cara Goubault is a master’s level psychotherapist with training in psychodynamic theory. Psychodynamic theory is based in psychoanalysis, but does not require that patients lie on a couch, and is generally more flexible and shorter term than psychoanalysis. The emphasis in this type of therapy is on the patient’s inner world and experience, and how one gives that meaning in daily living. Less emphasis is placed on specific advice or concrete answers. Instead, the therapist assists in helping the patient to find his or her own solutions from the inside out.
